CobraKai hosted “Show of the Century” at MetroTent in Pasig City. It showcased unique Bullies — Bulldogs, that is.
SHOWSTOPPING NAMES
According to CobraKai’s Peter De Guzman, the inspiration for the show’s name came from Muhammad Ali’s famous boxing matches titled Thrilla in Manila, Rumble in the Jungle, and Fight of the Century, with the word Show replacing the word Fight.
Show of the Century is the third and last Bully show.
ONE OF A KIND
What made this Dog show unique was that it was exclusively for Bullies, consisting of the French, American, Exotic, and English Bulldogs.
The judges based their evaluation on performance, showmanship, and preferences in colors, looks, and sizes, from the Dog’s head to the tail. One of the featured judges came all the way from Texas.
The main event had the French, English, American, and Exotic Bullies compete at the finals.
FOR ALL AGES
One of Peter’s goals was to cater to the whole family, which was why there were mini-games for the children.
BEYOND BORDERS
Attendees and competitors came from different parts of the country, some even coming from across Philippine borders, such as Europe, Vietnam, and the United States. The estimated crowd was around 500, not including children and elders who could enter the event for free.
EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING
Not everything was smooth sailing for the event. One of the challenges the event faced was the holiday schedule. It coincided with the week-long Holy Week holiday, so unfortunately, most people went on vacation outside Metro Manila, including the well-known players in the Bully scene.
Despite the setback, many newcomers came to participate.
