Husband and wife Jonathan and Donnabel Guinto from Hinundayan, Southern Leyte are asking the public to help them feed and buy medicine for 141 aspins they rescued and are now currently living in their shelter.
“Mahirap na masarap. Mahirap, kasi maraming pinapakain, nililinis yung shelter araw-araw tapos halos midnight na kami uuwi galing ng shelter, meron pa sa bahay. Sakripisyo po talaga. Sa pagmamahal lang talaga namin sa mga aso,” Jonathan told TeleRadyo in an interview.
The couple established their own animal shelter, Furry Tails Hinunduyan just February of this year when they decided to rescue animals from the pounds, according to ABS-CBN’s report.
“Weekly kami nagre-rescue ng mga unclaimed dogs sa pound kaya dumami,” explained Donnabel, noting that aside from the animals in the shelter, they are also taking care of 35 others that are living in their own home.
The couple added that their bills reached P3,200 a day just for the dogs’ food at the shelter.
“Sa totoo po, may mga pending kaming utang sa dealer ng bigas, yung iba sa meat shop. Pag may pumasok na donation from friends po, yun ang iniipon namin, tapos ibabayad sa kanila,” Donnabel said.
They said there are some people who helped and donated to the shelter, but the coronavirus pandemic affected the flow of donations pouring in.
Jonathan said they are rehabilitating their dogs to get ready for adoption, but oftentimes, people are messaging him on whether they have a dog with breed instead.
“Ang hirap dito sa atin talaga, pag aspin, walang nag-a-adopt. May nagte-text sa amin kung meron bang may lahi d’yan. Sabi namin wala. Aspin talaga lahat,” he said. “Sana po tulungan n’yo kaming suportahan yung advocacy namin to save the lives of the needy strays. Hanggang ngayon po, nagre-rescue pa rin kami. Sana po tulungan n’yo kaming ma-sustain yung shelter namin,” added Donnabel.
