A red and white tabby has been seen hanging around the main entrance of Epworth Hospital in Richmond, Melbourne, Australia for almost a year already.
Chantel Trollip, a pathologist at the hospital, said the cat is named Elwood and has been chilling near the entrance of the hospital almost every day for the whole year. He likes to receive pets from anyone going in or out of the hospital, and oftentimes found sunbathing in the nearby bushes.
One day, Trollip said she was coming in for work when she noticed Elwood has been sporting a collar with a tag.
“I first noticed his ID badge on him in June. I was actually having a case of the ‘sads’ that day, but seeing his ID badge turned my whole mood around!” Trollip told Bored Panda in an interview. “When I first saw him, he wasn’t wearing anything, so I assumed he was a stray. Then someone put a collar and tag on him and now most recently, he’s got his own ID badge, which is identical to our actual staff badges down to the call coded on the back.”
Many people thought Elwood was actually a stray cat, but as it turned out, he lives across the road with his real family and twin brother named Jake.
“He’s never really tried to get into the hospital. I think he’s too small to activate the automatic doors anyway,” said Trollip. “There is a kidney dish from the hospital that someone has turned into a water bowl for him.”
