Most 15-year old boys are busy with high school, late night basketball practices or even busy at planning their next move on wooing the girl of their dreams.
But not, Robert Irwin – the son of the late Steve Irwin, “The Crocodile Hunter,” an Australian zookeeper, conservationist and an avid animal lover.
At a very young age, Robert has already been introduced to wildlife and inherited his father’s love for animals and the wild as whole. He had the same passion as his father, even though they only get three years together, because of the untimely death of Steve in 2006.
Robert hosted Robert’s Real Life Adventures, a program on his family’s zoo’s internal TV network, and an animal presenter at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He also wrote several books about wildlife and nature. On top of all that? His wildlife photography.
London’s Natural History Museum hosts an annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition and late last year, Robert was awarded with the Highly Commended in Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards, which was the most prestigious photography competition in the world.
His photograph, “The Catch,” was selected, which showed a frog being eaten by a spider.
“I spent a month visiting the remote swamp in northern Queensland to get this shot of a huntsman spider devouring a frog and was very excited that it is one of the only times this has been recorded,” Robert wrote on his Instagram post.
He continued on to give credit to his inspiration, his father, during an interview with My Modern Met.
“He always carried his camera with him on his travels and photographed some spectacular wildlife,” Robert said.
Aside from that, he has also been awarded with Nature’s Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards.
