A former Amazon engineer who worked on Alexa has created a new project — app that could reportedly translate your cat’s meow.
Javier Sanchez, project manager of Bellevue-based tech company Akvelon, has developed an application that can translate what your cat is vocalizing, and calls is MeowTalk.
“It’s not a language. They don’t share words or communicate with each other. Cats never meow at each other out in nature,” Sanchez explained, noting that through months of research, he and his team realized cats have nine intents that MeowTalk based on to produce basic emotions and messages.
Sanchez added that the idea came after he chanced upon the NPR series “The Secret Language of Cats.”
“I’m hungry,” “I’m happy,” and even “I’m in pain” are all built into the app. Still, users can fine-tune them to help improve the accuracy of the messages. Users will be able to record their cat’s meow and decode what they mean.
The app is currently being refined, and Sanchez said they will release an update on its languages besides English in the following weeks. He also shared that the ultimate goal is having a collar that will hopefully translate with a voice response.
