Many people are praising a police department for its approach in claiming payments for parking tickets this month, which solely benefits the city’s feline residents.
The Muncie Police Department in Indiana released a video early in July, showing that residents could temporarily pay their parking tickets with animal supplies instead of cash.
“If you have a $25 parking ticket, you can bring up to $25 worth of cat food or litter to the Clerk’s Office,” Officer Jamie Browns says in the video. “And you can get your parking ticket to go away with the exchange of the donation.”
This move follows the tour that the police department took at the Muncie Animal Care and Services Shelter last July 8, where they found that the shelter has been running drastically low on animal supplies. The shelter started in 2012, and currently cares for over 350 cats.
Though the successful campaign only lasted from July 15 to 19, the police department said the video continues to inspire to donate to the shelter animals.
“A lot of people have donated cat food and litter this week! Most of these people didn’t even have a parking ticket,” Muncie Police posted on Twitter. “We are glad this week’s unique promotion helped spread the word!”
