Sergeant Kevyn Solarez was on his third deployment when he met a pup wandering around their base in Iraq. It was the holidays at that time and morale was quite low on his team, but when he saw the pup, it completely lifted his spirits.

Kevyn named the pup Josie. Without any family or close friends on a war-torn area, two-month-old Josie became the only family Kevyn had at that moment and she filled her heart. He often shared half of his food with Josie and they bonded well together.

“Just us kind going through the hard times makes our bond a little stronger than average,” Kevyn told a local news station in an interview.

When it was time for Kevyn to come back to the United States, he could not bear the thought of leaving Josie behind at the war zone. So, he contacted Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) International to help bring Josie to her home in the US.

It took 45 days to get Josie from Iraq to the US. After a long plane ride, Josie immediately settled into Kevyn’s arms when they med before heading to her new fur-ever home.
