Witnesses claimed that a woman climbed over an animal enclosure at the Wildlife World Zoo near Phoenix, when she was attacked by the jaguar.

She climbed over the fence to get closer to the female jaguar and take a photo. However, the animal saw her, reached out and slashed out on her.

Paramedics were quickly called to the scene to tend to the woman. She had suffered severe lacerations to her arm and bled heavily.

Although there were fears that the jaguar might be euthanized after the incident, the zoo has confirmed a statement on Twitter that she would not be put down after the attack.

“We promise you nothing will happen to our jaguar. She’s a wild animal and there were proper barriers in place to keep our guests safe-not a wild animals fault when barriers are crossed. Still sending prayers to her and her family,” stated Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park on Twitter.
