World Guinness Record holder for the oldest Dog, Bobi, passed away at the age of 31 in Portugal.
In a statement on the World Guinness Record website, Bobi died in an animal hospital in October. Bobi was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a livestock guardian Dog with a life expectancy of 10 to 14 years.
Bobi spent his entire life with his human guardian, Leonel Costa, and his family in Conqueiros, a village in Portugal.
Secret to long life
Leonel shared with Portuguese media the secret to Bobi’s long life. “[L]iving in the countryside, near nature . . . is one of the factors to explain Bobi’s longevity.”
Aside from being near nature, Bobi was rarely on a leash. According to Leonel, this could be one possible factor that contributed to Bobi’s long life.
Bobi was born on May 11, 1992, along with three other pups in a wood storage shed owned by the Costa family.
