A bear was killed by electric shock after climbing a utility pole to escape traffic and touched power lines in northwestern Colorado, wildlife officials said.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officer Jack Taylor said a resident saw the bear. It ran into a field and climbed the pole after he got scared by an oncoming car while trying to cross a country road.

He added that Parks and Wildlife had already received a total of two reports of bears being electrocuted last year.

Taylor explained that bears sometimes climb utility poles the say way they climb trees when fleeing from danger.
