Anushka Sharma, an Indian actress, film producer, and animal lover has urged people to raise their voice against animal cruelty, and at the same time, stand up to protect and preserve the lives of the hapless animals against inhumane treatment.
An avid pet lover, Sharma started a campaign to demand stricter laws and harsher punishment against animal cruelty. With the campaign, #JusticeForAnimals, she hopes for the amendment of the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
This move comes after an accident, involving a street dog by the name Lucky, who was just taking shelter from the rain inside a residential building in Mumbai when a couple of men beat him up with sticks.
“Lucky was not the only one who faced inhuman cruelty. There are several more cases of dogs being mercilessly attacked and killed across our country,” Sharma wrote in an Instagram post. “The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 needs to be amended to provide #JusticeForAnimals – we need immediate attention and action on this. There’s a need for #StricterLawsAgainstAnimalCruelty.”
