Vice President Leni Robredo proposed an evacuation center for animals to local government units (LGUs) to prevent residents and evacuees from returning to their homes amidst the Taal Volcano eruption.
Robredo suggested the safe centers to Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste during her visit to the province on Tuesday when they distributed relief goods to evacuees.
“Marami iyong medyo matigas iyong ulo. Bumabalik-balik sa mga bahay nila kahit bawal, kasi may mga hayop na naiwan,” Robredo said. “So par asana maiwasan na may mangyari habang nandoon sila, gawan ng plano.”
Robredo claimed the vice governor would consider her suggestion.
Robredo distributed 2,101 food packs and 1,000 face masks to affected residents who were taking shelter in evacuation centers in Sta. Teresita, Sto. Tomas, and San Jose.
Thousands of residents were forced to evacuate in affected areas in Batangas within the 14-kilometer danger zone after Taal Volcano continuously spew large amounts of ash that reached as far as Quezon City. The Philippine Institute of Volcanolgy and Seismology warned of a possible “hazardous eruption” withing days or hours as it remains on Alert Level 4.
