Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the furriest of them all?
Pet owners share hilarious photos of their companion animals gazing at themselves in the mirror. Though some argue that pets like dogs and cats do not have the ability to become self-aware when looking in the mirror, eventually failing the so-called “mirror test” by Gordon Galoup.
The mirror self-recognition test has been tested among different animals since the 1970s, to understand whether they, aside from humans, are self-aware. There have been a few animals who passed the test, but those who failed were mostly dogs.
“They do not seem to know, or perhaps they don’t really care, what is going on with the mirror’s scentless, two-dimensional representation of a dog,” reported The Cut.
