Thai photographer Visarute Angkatavanich shared his stunning, close-up portraits of Siamese fighting fish.
Commonly known as Betta, the fighting fish is native to the Mekong basin of Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. From its name the “fighting fish,” Betta is known as a very aggressive fish that often picks fights with others.
But Angkatavanich’s latest series, titled Betta Paradiso, captures the serene characteristics of the fish as they gracefully swim in the water.
His portfolio ranged from a wide variety of Siamese fighting fish. He used black or white backgrounds to wholly highlight the species’ vibrant colors, from white to a multicolored fish.
In the following shots, the fish appears to be like a swirling cloud of colorful ink in water.
