After helping their humans find missing people and criminals, to sniffing out drugs, cash, firearms and explosives, these heroic police dogs will be given the tribute they deserve.

PC Carrie-Ann McNab, a police dog handler for Scottish police dogs, has started a fundraiser to ensure they give the past, present and future police dogs a well-deserved tribute for their contribution to keeping the community safe from harm.

The memorial will also be a place for handlers and the public to remember the heroic service of the pups, as it will serve as a testament of their bravery and sacrifice for the people.

McNab, who has worked as a police officer for 15 years, has been a dog handler for the past six years. She partners with a four-year-old German Shepherd named Bodie, and six-year-old Cocker Spaniel named Brodie, both trained to sniff out drugs.

The policewoman hopes to build the memorial for the dogs in Pollok Park, which serves as the training grounds for the police canines since 1974.

“I think it is important that there is a memorial for the public to see and understand how much these dogs help out in their local communities. Police dogs area bout more than just fighting crime, a big part of their job is to find missing people,” McNab told Glasgow Times. “There isn’t a single police dog in Scotland that hasn’t returned a missing person to their loved ones.”

Ziggy, a Belgian Malinois heroic dog who will be retiring from the force this year, is looked to be the model for the memorial. McNab said she hopes it will also be cast in bronze by John Doubleday, the famous sculptor who made the UK K9 Memorial in Essex.

“It would be nice for the public to have somewhere to go to reflect on what the dogs have contributed to society during their service,” McNab added.

Currently, they have raised a total of £2660 of the £35,000 target.
