THE VERDICT

Have you been keeping tabs on which letter you’ve chosen the most in the quiz? Find that letter below — that’s your Bugsona!

A RUBBER DUCK ISOPOD (CUBARIS SP.)

You’re sociable but you enjoy your quiet time and slow mornings. You love your friends dearly and will fight anyone who bullies them.

With cottagecore gaining popularity, you feel more and more comfortable wearing your style out in the open. Some days, you feel like you’re going around in circles, but just remember that it’s a gradual cycle upward and onwards.

In case you didn’t know: Rubber Duck Isopods are some of the few Insects who thrive as a social group. It’s not unusual to see them hanging out together or crawling over each other.

B SHRIMP

You hate wasting food and are an expert at cooking leftovers. Nothing gives you the zoomies more than hanging out with friends (plus points if it’s a swimming party).

You like making spontaneous decisions, but that keeps life exciting! You’re the “mom” of the barkada, and you make sure everyone’s doing alright.

Hey, don’t forget to let your friends care for you too, okay?

In case you didn’t know: Shrimp make the most of their food and are part of nature’s cleanup crew.

C MILLIPEDE

You like to live fast and stick to the plan. Little do your friends know that you can be a bit emotional and you wear your heart on your sleeve.

Exercise has been keeping you together and that’s okay, because you can spend time with friends while at the gym. You feel like you’ve been stuck in a rut and have lost a bit of spark.

Make some surprise decisions, it could bring that twinkle back.

In case you didn’t know: Millipedes enjoy having the room for a quick zoomie, but they can curl up and hide if you bop them by accident.

D STICK INSECT

You love helping your friends out and it brings you joy to spend time with like-minded folks. You can be a bit of a maximalist, but it’s because you hold all your memories dearly.

You enjoy hiking, but don’t be afraid to branch out a bit. Maybe try some Birdwatching or grow some houseplants.

You might have been feeling stumped about something the last few days. Take some time to hold still, and don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help.

In case you didn’t know: When caring for Stick Insects, it’s important to give them lots of vertical space and plants to hide in — sounds like the perfect apartment, complete with high ceilings!

E MADAGASCAR HISSING COCKROACH

You’re the home IT specialist just because you’re on your laptop most of the day. Your friends jokingly call you the techbro, but you just like being organized.

Beneath your workaholic exterior is someone who feels pressured to do well all the time. Don’t forget to chill out! Take a break from chores one day — maybe even let that laundry pile up a little bit.

In case you didn’t know: Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches often seem introspective and calm. Can you also imagine them typing away on a teeny laptop?

F EARTHWORM

Your friends know you love brainteasers. Nothing makes you happier than working on that 8000-piece puzzle then moving on to today’s sudoku.

You’re pragmatic and go straight to the point even if it means being a little abrasive. You also tend to keep to yourself, but it’s just because you’re afraid people will judge you for being pasmado. Relax! Go out and meet some folks every now and then.

In case you didn’t know: Earthworms love to go straight to work, eating all that yummy compost.

All of these Bugsonas might seem like Insects, but they’re not. Rubber Duck Isopods and Shrimps are actually Crustaceans, and Earthworms are a kind of Annelid.

SHARE WITH QUIZ-LOVING FRIENDS!

So, how was it? Were you spineless? Slimy? With compound eyes? Take a picture of what you got and share it with your friends. And yes, maybe even actually ask them: Would you love me if I was a [insert your Bugsona here]?

Invertebrates don’t get enough attention compared to bigger and flashier Animals. According to Eisenhower and colleagues in a 2019 article for Nature, this lack of attention is especially so for invertebrates who live in the soil — they are gravely underrepresented and under-researched (not to mention underloved), even if they basically keep our ecosystems running smoothly. Let’s give these charismatic minifauna a chance to steal our hearts.
