Willie Nelson, American musician and marijuana activist, rescued 70 horses from a slaughterhouse and adopted them so they could freely roam around on his 700-acre ranch in Texas.
Nelson has always been a horse lover, which his song ‘Ride Me Back Home’ was attributed to. He even won an award for his song “The Love of Horses” in 2015, its video showing Nelson interacting with the Habitats for Horses members, who aims at ending the ongoing slaughter of horses by passing a new legislation that will protect the beings.
“My horses are probably the luckiest horses in the world. They get hand-fed twice a day, and they were just ready to go to slaughter is probably the last thing they remembers, so they’re happy horses,” Nelson said during an interview with local media.
Nelson’s son, Lukas, is also in love with horses. He supports Saving America’s Horses as well as Habitat for Horses. His band also performs songs about horses.
The county musician spends his time on his ranch when he is not on tour or just on a vacation. He calls the ranch, “Luck,” and even told Paul Venema from KSAT 12 News, “when you’re here, you’re in Luck, and when you’re not, you’re out of Luck.”
