Just weeks after he became a breakout star from the movie ‘Pet Sematary,’ Leo the cat suddenly dies, leaving his fans all around the world heartbroken.
“It is with deep sadness that we tell you that Leo has passed away. He will be forever missed by his human and fur family. May his star always shine bright!!,” Jarrett Kirk, Leo’s trainer and fur-parent, wrote on their Instagram account. Kirk adopted the cat right after the filming of the movie.
Leo, a Maine Coon crossbreed cat, played Church (if you haven’t seen the film yet, Church is a scary living feline) in the 2019 remake of the 1989 film Pet Sematary, which was based from a book written by Stephen King.
In an interview with AV Club, Kirk once described Leo as someone “different from any other cat I’ve ever seen. He’s got this beautiful face, and these eyes that are so expressive.”
Which may have explained why out of the four different cats who played Church, Leo was the one who had the most exposure. Leo was the cat featured on the film’s posters and in any other platforms.
