Pawssion Project, an animal welfare organization based in Bulacan, and MBY Pet Rescue and Sanctuary in Morong, Rizal, saved a total of 50 dogs and 15 cats from being euthanized in an animal pound in Tondo, Manila.
The group came to the rescue of the animals just in time as Manila City Pound scheduled for them to be put them, because the pound was already beyond its capacity.
“It all just came together because some 50 dogs were scheduled to be killed,” Malou Perez from Pawssion Project, said. “This is a vicious cycle that will never end unless we all come together and make a stand.”
Both organizations promote responsible pet ownership, spay and neuter, and the implementation of stricter rules, fines, and penalties on animal cruelty.
Manila mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso also appeals to the people to practice responsible pet ownership. He thanked Perez and television host and model Marc Nelson for rescuing the animals.
“Sa mga pet lovers po, please, marami pong mga kawawang aso at pusa na nire-rescue sa kalye who deserve a new home and loving owners. Adopt, don’t shop,” Domagoso wrote in a Facebook post.
The rescued animals were immediately taken to a veterinarian to run a distemper test and blood test.
They are temporarily being rehomed at MBY Pet Rescue and Sanctuary.
